For this reason, the scholars frequently emphasised that dhikr of the tongue holds a unique and central position in a believer’s life. It awakens the heart, preserves consistency, and anchors the believer upon obedience. This meaning is clearly established in the statement of the Prophet (May Allah extol the name of the Prophet and protect him from any harm) when a man said: “O Messenger of Allah, the laws of Islam are too many for me, so inform me of something I can hold on to.” He replied: “Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.”
Throughout the treatise, the Imam emphasises the root causes of this weakness, primarily highlighting the lack of knowledge and its far-reaching consequences. He discusses the gravity of this affliction and its harmful impact on individuals, identifying ignorance as the core issue that undermines our collective strength in confronting challenges.
‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Indeed, we are a people whom Allah has honoured with Islam; thus, whenever we seek honour through other than it, Allah degrades us.”

From the author's introduction:
The Qurʾān and Aḥādīth are from the greatest bounties the Lord of the worlds has blessed us with. The apparent and hidden, the body and soul, are cured with them. With this great bounty, a person is not in need of anything other than it with the condition that one fully comprehends and submits with full faith.
Allāh says in the Qurʾān: {This day have I perfected your religion for you.} [Q. 5:3] Some people do not value the religion and think it is incomplete, that is why they go down other paths and chase other “-isms” while some people take the Qurʾān and Aḥādīth only for a spiritual cure related to the success of the hereafter, not a physical cure bringing happiness in this life as well as the next.
Some people depend solely upon doctors for physical diseases and illnesses, while thinking the adhkār which have been shown in the Qurʾān and Aḥādīth are of no benefit in regards to physical diseases and illnesses. Yet the truth is that these adhkār and supplications have greater effect than western medicine, hence why the duʿāʾ is the weapon for a believer, as has been reported in the Ḥadīth collected in al-Mustadrak.
The Prophet emphasized on duʿāʾ and adhkār. He prescribed specific adhkār for specific occasions, hence every Muslim should strive to memorize these due to their importance. This will allow one to achieve happiness in this life and the next.

This is a very beautiful booklet that consists of many authentic Dua’s (supplications) for a Muslim to supplicate on a daily basis and on special occasions.
Author’s Note:
This book is an abridgement of my earlier work entitled, Adh-Dhikr wad-Du’a wal-‘llaj bir-Ruqyah mina’-Kitab was-Sunnah. In order to make it small and easily portable, I have chosen only the section on words of remembrance for this abridgement. To achieve this, I only mentioned the text of the words of remembrance instead of the entire Hadith. I also limited myself to mentioning only one or two references from the original book for each Hadith.

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon wherein he stated, “O people, indeed your Lord is one and your forefather is one. Indeed, there is no superiority for the Arab over the non-Arab nor the non-Arab over the Arab, and there is no superiority for the white over the black nor the black over the white. Have I conveyed the message?” The people replied, “The Messenger of Allah has conveyed the message.” [Musnad Aḥmad (23489, ṣaḥīḥ)] Al-Dhahabī said about Ibn al-Jawzī, “He is the shaykh, the imām, the ʿallāmah, the ḥāfiẓ, the mufassir, shaykh al-Islām, the pride of Baghdād. […] Abu ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Dubaythī said about him in his Tārīkh, ‘Our shaykh Jamāl al-Dīn authored many works within the branches of the Islamic sciences, such as tafsīr, fiqh, ḥadīth, history and other than them. He had prowess in the knowledge of ḥadīth and its sciences, differentiating the authentic from the weak. He was the best of people in speech and eloquence. He was blessed in his life and knowledge.’ […] Al-Muwaffaq ʿAbd al-Laṭīf said, ‘Ibn al-Jawzī would not waste anything from his time, writing four booklets a day. He had a share in every branch of knowledge, however in tafsīr he was from the most remarkable, in ḥadīth he was a ḥāfiẓ, and his grasp of history was vast. He was competent in fiqh, and he had an amazing gift for preaching.’” [Extracts from his biography in Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalā (21/365-384)] The author said, “I bore witness to a group of eminent Ḥabash who were disheartened due to the darkness of their skin colour. I thus clarified to them that the matter upon which consideration is placed is good deeds rather than one’s appearance, and I wrote this book for them to mention the virtue of many from amongst the Ḥabash and black people.”

"Know O beloved reader that it is most important to spend one's time and energy in treating the heart, and hastening to correct and purify it from sickness and all sins. This is due to the heart occupying a great and lofty position in Islaam, for it is the place to which the Lord looks and the storehouse for tawheed, faith, and sincerity. Actions are distinguished, one from the other, with respect to their excellence in the Sight of Allah in accordance with the condition of the heart, not by their number or form, but rather due to the strength of the caller, his or her truthfulness, his or her sincerity and the extent to which he or she prefers Allah over himself or herself. Al-Haafidh ibn Hajr al-Asqalaanee, said: "The heart has been singled out for this because it is the leader of the body, and through the purification of the leader the subjects become purified, and with his corruption they become corrupted. So if you, O servant of Allah, with to cure your heart then it is upon you to be truthful with regards to seeking refuge with Allah and putting your trust in Him, to pray a great deal of superogatory prayers, to perform the actions of obedience to Allah frequently, to pray the night prayer while the people are sleeping, and to treat your heart by making it continuously stick to the remembrances and by befriending only the righteous ... and to frequently recite the Qur'an. And Allah will indeed allow all of this to be preserved by him."

The Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “When you indulge in al-‘inah (interest)transactions and take hold of the tails of cows and become satisfied with cultivation and abandon striving in His Way, then Allah shall permit your humiliation and He will not lift it from you, until you return back to your religion.” Abu Dawud # 3455
He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish.” Someone asked: “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?” He replied: “No, you will be numerous at that time; but you will be like the scum carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and place wahn into your hearts.” Someone asked: “O Messenger of Allah, what is wahn?” He replied: “Love of the world and hatred for death.” Abu Dawud # 4297
It is abundantly clear that the Muslims have been afflicted with great trials, their unity has been shattered, their strength has been exhausted and their ranks scattered. Today we are living in an age when the Muslims have reached a limit worse than which, no Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) could reach and it is one of humiliation and subjugation by others. Due to this and the sense of that humiliation which sadly reigns over all Muslim countries regardless of class or station we continually ask ourselves in our private and public gatherings and counsels: What is the cause that has led the Muslims to this lowly and despicable state and this humiliating and shameful condition? And what is the underlying reason for their arrival at this low level of debasement and wretchedness?
The Sheikh may Allah have mercy on him, discuss some of the important issues that caused the downfall of Muslims and its solutions in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah. This book before you is very unique and contains very beneficial knowledge that will aid the Muslims in realising the problems within the Ummah and the need to return back to which will bring about success in this life and the next. It contains two treaties of the Sheikh dealing with this important subject that is often over looked.
Allah, the Most High has said: “This nation is the best raised for mankind. It enjoins good and forbids evil” (3:110) O Muslims realise your protentional, return to the truth, return to the Book and the Sunnah, and Allah will give you strength and honour!
In this notable work, the renowned author provides essential detail in discussing key
points dealing with differences that arise between the People of Sunnah, and the
manners and etiquette one should acquire when differing occurs. He beautifully
illustrates the difference between advising that is encouraged, and shaming that is not
permitted – two topics that often become tangled and misunderstood. The author thus
explains the characteristics of sincere advice and censure with a depth of clarity that will
no doubt bring benefit to all, particularly those involved in active da’wah.
This work also lays down some guiding principles when preparing criticisms and
refutations. It makes clear that such ideal precepts apply to People of Sunnah; and as far
as the People of Innovation and desires are concerned, then these principles do not apply
to them. This is because the former group is recognised for following the truth, being
merciful to the creation and desiring for them guidance, reform and all kinds of
goodness. They never intend any harm, but rather make falsehood known by stemming
ignorance through reasoning and dialogue in clarifying the truth – they enjoin the good
and forbid the evil and strive in making the Word of allah uppermost.
Dr. Salih ibn Sa`d al-Suhaymi provides beneficial commentary for the important points
covered in this book, bringing greater relevancy to our modern context.
The book we are presenting here covers a subject that has not been discussed or published before. Although one finds books on polygamy or polygyny some refuting them and some asserting them, but this presentation is quite different from them as it discusses the issue entirely in psychological and realistic ways.
We must say that the authors have dealt with the subject covering all the aspects that had had to be discussed. They have used statistics, conducted researches, arranged interviews, provided solutions, and exposed the real attitudes in this regard. They have presented the ideal and most practical way to deal with the important issues of our life: by making the mind as the authority to decide about the matters instead of our emotions. They have shown how to analyze a situation and seek the possible ways that can produce better results. In fact, this logic of resolving the issues and solving the problems can be applied to every situation to benefit from.
In short, the book tells us to see the facts of life in their true perspective without exaggerating or minimizing them from their actual conditions – and that is the most objective method to deal with our lives and the lives of others. We advise every man and woman to read this book and get benefited from the problem-solving approach presented in it.

Awaking From the Sleep of the Heedlessness BY Ibn al-Jawzi There are those who submit to Allah,s order and achieve success. Others are wasteful of time and thereby loss and regret. Whoever lives his life in accordance with Allah,s commands, will be rewarded handsomely with multiplied profits beyond imagination. The corrupt one who acts contrarily to Divine Pleasure will be destroyed. This fourth masterpiece in the series expounds on the five stages of life: the first stage of encouraging and disciplining; the second stage of youthfulness, protecting the self and struggling against desires; the third of maturity; the fourth stage of old age; the fifth stage of decrepitude. The onset of these periods may vary slightly from person to person. Nonetheless these five stages are true. This is truly a work of genius.
This is the fifth instalment in the book series (Of the illustrious and inimitable scholar of the sixth century Hijri) by Imam Ibn al-Jawzi, May Allah mercy upon him. The author penned this rare and deeply thought-provoking work with remarkable prose, accompanied by intense imagery designed to impart profound points of benefit harvested from the Qur’an and Sunnah. His lessons are uniquely arranged and gleam with exquisite expressions- designed to council the intellect to reflect, and heart to reform.
Being a timely translation, its message reflects the challenge of the human condition that continues to divert mankind with the blinding effect of this transient and material world and bring back the real focus on mankind’s purpose and responsibility on earth.
The Author has extracted from an array of topics that will jolt the hearts and moisten the eyes while strengthening the resolve to return to Allah and aspire for loftier goals to succeed in this life and the next. And there is no might or power, except with Allah.
